Diesel Mileage - How to Increase Diesel Mpg With Hydrogen Conversion

Diesel mileage is a hot topic right now considering diesel fuel is running over a gallon - up nearly from one year ago. Fuel prices have been tough on everyone especially diesel drivers and semi owner/operators. Diesel drivers are looking for solutions - from diesel chips to additives and diy hydrogen conversion kits. So how can you increase diesel mpg with hydrogen conversion?

Well, total hydrogen conversion is not completely practical right now due to lack of hydrogen stations for fueling - however, there are thousands of people using hydrogen in their vehicles right now as a supplement to gasoline and diesel. This type of hydrogen conversion in effect turns your vehicle into a hydrogen hybrid. With hydrogen generators, you can build it yourself in a matter of hours. The hydrogen gets mixed with gas or diesel to provide increased horsepower and better diesel mileage.

To do a hydrogen conversion, you need an comprehensive guide to safely and correctly install a small container (or 6-pack for increasing a semis diesel mileage) under the hood. This container uses water and baking soda, plus the electricity from your battery to break down the water into hydrogen molecules that your engine can then use as a fuel supplement. This process is also known as electrolysis, brown's gas, or hho - the contraption being called a hydrogen generator.

Basically, the hydrogen gas then gets sucked up into your air manifold via the engine's vacuum where it mixes with diesel or gasoline to increase combustion, and your engine's efficiency. Hydrogen conversion works on injection or carburetor systems, and you don't have to mess with the computer. There's no need to make any engine alterations and the system is easily removed, for instance, when you want to resell your vehicle.

If you poke around some auto forums, you'll find a great deal of debate surrounding hydrogen conversions. Some say it won't work. But it's hard to argue with actual results. We found a guy on cnet that improved diesel mileage from 17 to 24 mpg in town in his Dodge cummins diesel.

There are many expensive kits being sold online for hydrogen conversion. You can spend 00's of dollars for a hydrogen injection kit, or you can purchase detailed manuals online that explain exactly how to complete a hydrogen conversion, and do it yourself with parts you can pick up at your local home improvement store.

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. QUESTION:
Diesel mileage of a semi truck with and without load?
We have a argument about the mileage of a semi truck with and without the trailer. I know that if more people get in a car, the mileage decreases a bit. But for the semi truck, the load can be as heavy as the truck so am not sure how many % the mileage is increased when the semi truck drives unload.

    • ANSWER:
Around 6-7 fully loaded, depending on engine and gearing. MAYBE 8 mpg empty, but probably not. The mileage doenst really vary as muchas you would think.

  2. QUESTION:
How do I get my mileage estimator to work in my 2004 diesel excursion?
When we bought our limited edition 2004 diesel excursion the mileage estimator/ temp/ direction screen didn't work. I've heard there are simple ways to fix this screen. Does anyone know how to fix it?

    • ANSWER:
Could be anything electrical that it hooks up to, but they are not correct anyways. Their nickname to a lot of us (guys that deal with Ford Diesel issues) call it is "lie-o-meter". The only Ford diesel with the correct fuel milage display is the 2011 6.7's.

  3. QUESTION:
What is the gas mileage on diesel trucks?
Everywhere i looked i couldn't find the gas mileage for diesel trucks, and i'd like to know what they are especially for Dodge Ram 1500/2500, Chevy Silverado 1/2 ton/2500HD and Ford F-150/F-250.

    • ANSWER:
That's because diesels DON'T use gasoline

  4. QUESTION:
What type of diesel mileage do big rigs get with or without a full load?

    • ANSWER:
With a full load (80K), driven at about 60mph, most trucks will get in the mid 6mpg range... this of course varies with the terrain and the driver's habits, but it a workable average. Empty... between 7 and 8 mpg... you are still pushing a lot of air....

  5. QUESTION:
What is a high mileage for a diesel car?
What is the mileage that a diesel car is considered a high mileage (particularly VW Passat)?

Is a VW Passat 2005 with 101,000 miles on the clock reliable to buy? How about one with 119,000 miles? What if the latter has 3 months free warranty part and labour?

These cars are in London, if that makes any difference.

    • ANSWER:
      2,000,000 miles.

I've had several vehicles reach over 400,000 miles, without problems.

Not that mileage is any gauge at all as to the condition of a car.

It's not like it's an expiration date or anything.

Take care of the car, it lasts. Don't and it won't. It's that simple.

As I said in your other question, reliability is YOUR JOB. Not the car. It can't maintain itself, repair itself, service itself, etc. It relys on you to do those things. Drive it well, service it well, and it's "reliable". But it doesn't come with any reliability of it's own.
