A lot of money can be saved by driving a car with great mileage. Dependency on foreign oil means that the price of gas is prone to fluctuate based on supply and demand. Another benefit of driving a greener car is saving the environment; the ozone layer is being slowly depleted by all the gasses our vehicles emit into the atmosphere. You may think that these green cars cost a fortune but they actually don't. Here is a list of a few cars that are not only efficient but also surprisingly affordable.

ANSWER:
Ed Begley Jr. has been the laughing stock of Hollywood for 20 years because He insisted on driving an electric car.
And it is only now that other celebrities have began to also drive Electric.
I find that most cars on the road are only carrying one or two people, and only drive less than 30 miles a day.
By converting to smaller two passenger electric cars, we could not only reduce the congestion on the commuter highways in the metropolitan areas but at the same time reduce the hte emission for many of the Internal combustion engines.
QUESTION:
How statisfying is it that the companies that killed the electric car are now going broke?
talk about wonderful karma
ANSWER:
What bugs is how the gov let them kill it. The car companies had to agree to promote the cars with an ad campaign. Of course, the ad campaign was designed to make sure the cars didn't sell.
I saw "Who Killed the Electric Car" just outside of liberal Cambridge, MA. Of course the audience was filled with people who were at least open to the idea of an electric car, and within a few minutes, the film had nearly everyone wishing they had one.
Later on, they showed the commercials and magazine ads designed to "sell" the cars. They were so deliberately awful that the EC-friendly audience erupted in laughter. The ad campaign even turned off a bunch of Massachusetts liberals!
BTW, I see at least one answerer and absorbed the anti-EC talking points disseminated through the right wing news media as part of a campaign to scuttle the cars. That's in the film too.
QUESTION:
Would you ever consider buying an electric car?

No. Not yet. the tech isn't there yet.
I've seen guy's tooling around on little scooters where I live with no helmets, shorts, penny loafers and no clue! It's like the new trend. There gonna get scraped up and poured into a bucket someday!
I wouldn't get on a dirt bike in a field without full protection much less on public concrete and cars flying around!! Crazy!!
Mark my word's, That'll be the new warning on the news,....or they'll be outlawed little by little before they catch on.

ANSWER:
The electric car is alive and well. but not in the form we first expected. Battery (power storage) technology is getting better and frame materials are getting lighter. we may yet see a resurgence of electric cars in the near future.
Electric Vehicles and The Benefit It Brings to The Environment
Electric cars got the attention of the giant economies like the United States, China, Japan, and European countries. They have are producing and using electric cars and the government is even giving out incentives and invest on research to further improve electric cars. European countries are purchasing electric cars in fleets. Paris and London recently announced electric car technology and charging stations sharing system.
Electric cars as my friend who recently purchased from an Edmonton Toyota dealer, said that they are not just modified golf cars. They are indeed cars, one that can take you to far places you want to go. Electric cars utilize electricity stored in batteries to power it. Toyota dealers right now have the Toyota Prius although not a complete electric car but Toyota's start to creating pure electric cars soon.
What is the difference between at electric car and the conventional engine car? Basically, an electric car is powered by many batteries or 16 to 25, that stores electricity. Mainly, a power car provides between sixteen to 25 batteries as opposed to an engine or perhaps gas tank. The batteries that you use to start your car are the same with the batteries that run the electric cars that is lead acid. Lead acid batteries are fairly cheap but they are also huge and bulky plus they don't store a lot of energy. The ideal batteries for electric cars are Nickel Metal Hydride and Lithium lon. These types of batteries however are quite expensive and when used in an electric car will raise the EV's price. Nonetheless, electric cars will let you save so much in gasoline and because does not have an engine, it emits no carbon dioxide which we all know can be harmful to the environment.
With continued research and battery technology improvement, we will soon see a next generation of electric cars. Soon electric cars will equal and even exceed the traditional car in speed, form, and range, but with the advantage of zero C02 emissions.
A friend who frequents an Edmonton Toyota dealership told me that a lot of their customers are inquiring and interested in electric cars. Perhaps these customers of Alberta Toyota are creating a demand for a complete electric car from Toyota dealers and manufacturers. These ongoing and growing interest of Edmonton Toyota clients and other Toyota customers around the world in electric cars may be due to the fact that electric cars does not pose any hazards to the environment. Save the proper disposal of batteries. Electric cars have a quiet engine and run by clean power. Electric cars are more fuel efficient. It provides 60 to 80% of tank to wheel performance which is four times higher than engine cars. It's best fuel savings can be achieved when it is on low speed. Its driving style flexibility is very ideal for cosmo people and city dwellers.
Wide support and usage of electric cars will lessen carbon emissions and will help stop green house effect which is the major cause of climate change. Carbon emissions from transportation take the fifth place in the overall emissions of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere and the number is growing as the number of car owners are also increasing. A fellow client at Edmonton Toyota remarked how he would want to purchase a complete electric car from Toyota dealers someday. Right now he is happy with his Toyota Prius, a hybrid electric vehicle.
People gradually changing to hybrid and electric cars are doable. We all want a clean and healthy environment for us and for our descendants. As with anything new and with any transitions there are many challenges and issues we need to deal with in order to reach our goals of a healthier environment. One issue when changing to electric cars is of course the cost of its battery and how to make it more affordable. Next, how to improve battery technology, and of course to create and build more charging stations and parking lots as charging stations.
Everything can be done with the support of the government, big companies, and car manufacturers, and consumers. As of now let us start buying electric cars or hybrid cars such as Toyota Prius found in Toyota dealers.

In make it easier to understand how youcan get better fuel economy from your diesel engine, let's go back to basics to give you a little more knowledge about the fuel itself.
By doing this it is easy to see how cost savings can be made and how a better fuel consumption rate (miles per gallon, or mpg) will give you an overall cheaper diesel fuel cost.
00004000 One of the very important points to acknoweldge is that a well maintained, smooth running engine is about the most important factor in achieving better fuel economy. Further, many of the problems that occur with diesel engines relate to fuel quality, which can occur in several ways.
1. It can vary from shipment to shipment
Even if you use the same vendor each time you fill up with diesel, there can be changes in the fuel they are providing. The diesel quality can change, even in a small way, with each shipment your vendor receives. The key variables are:
* Cetane: this is the level at which the fuel will self ignite, with acceptable levels being between 40 and 45. Because the levels can change with every delivery, the are not widely known. The starting and combustion roughness of your engin can be affected by the cetane level.
About the author: Diesel costs can make or break a business, so finding a way to give better fuel economy is worth gold.

QUESTION:
Anyone modified their diesel car to run on used vegetable oil? Has the fuel savings been worth the expense?
ANSWER:
I haven't done a S.V.O. mod, but I have made bio diesel.
I found that the time and money I spent making bio diesel was better invested in riding a bicycle.
I now commute daily by bicycle and don't hesitate riding distances up to 25 miles.(each way) I've also tackled distances well in excess of 100 miles.
The benefits to my health, wealth and environment have been substantial. Added bonus I really enjoy it.
I still have a diesel vehicle that I fill with bio diesel (when I can get it). I use it when the bicycle is not practical (loads and family). Considering the amount of use my vehicle now gets it is doubtful that modifying it to run on S.V.O would be worth the hassle.
It would all depend on how much you use the car. How available the supply of vegetable oil is. There is a lot of running around to get vegetable oil in the quantities to make it worthwhile.
Where I live bio diesel is on a par with the cost of mineral diesel but it is hard to come by. In my case savings would only be few dollars a week (at most). I prefer to pay the commercial manufacturers.

QUESTION:
Would you notice the fuel savings on;?
5,2 Liters per 100 km
vs
4,2 Liters per 100 km in a Mixed drive cycle ??
Car A;
9,1 l/km Urban
5,4 l/km Extra Urban
Car B;
5,7 l/km Urban
4,2 l/km Extra Urban
What car would you buy ??
It's the same car but one's a 1.6 Petrol Auto, the others Diesel... and I'm not sure which one I'd choose. Generally I'd do a mixed cycle but it really depends
Also considering Petrol is 1,08€ a liter and Diesel is 1,11€ a liter... would I notice a vast savings difference ??
As the diesel version doesn't come in the color I want =( and would only cost 25€ less a year on Emissions Taxes... So I'm unsure what to choose... the mixed cycle is about the same distance for fuel
edit
For Americans its;
Car A;
49.6 mpg urban
67.3 mpg extra urban
60.1 mpg combined
Car B;
32.8 mpg urban
50.4 mpg extra urban
42.2 mpg combined
ANSWER:
The savings do add up. How significant they are depends on how much you drive every year. If you just drive around town, it probably doesn't matter much, but if you're fond of road trips (like me), they can be significant.
Something else to consider is maintenance. Diesel engines handle much higher pressures than gasoline engines, and so they are built very, very solid. They also don't have spark plugs. These two factors alone tend to mean a diesel engine will last longer than a gasoline one.
Modern diesels are also quiet and, contrary to some propaganda you may have seen, better for the environment than gasoline engines. This is because they are both more fuel-efficient (they use a higher amount of the energy content available in the fuel for propulsion) and because diesel fuel contains more energy by volume than gasoline does (longer carbon chains).
Diesel fuel also used to be cheaper, because it was primarily used in industry and agriculture. When people started buying diesel cars to take advantage of this fact, many governments decided to increase the fuel taxes on diesel for no other justifiable reason than that they saw another source of income.
At any rate, I'd go with the diesel.
QUESTION:
Do they work? The Internet has offers for water to hydrogen converter for cars promising 40% fuel savings???
Do they work???? It sounds impossible that a quart of water could do something to an engines gas or diesel that would save hundreds of dollars of fuel. Is this a scam? for plans on some sites. Too good to be true?
Here's one link:

ANSWER:
what they are making is HHO gas. Most people try to say that it is the same as H2O but it is not. HHO is actually a gas and is very combustible. to simply explain HHO difference between watter (H2O) is the H2O is arranged as HOH. Through electrolysis you can create HHO which is arranged as HHO not HOH. If that makes sense. It is possible.. Just search for it on YouTube and you will find all kinds of people making it. Some have even put it in cars and it does work.
You pipe the HHO gas into your intake manifold which mixes with your gas and fuel mixture making it more explosive you could say hense giving you better gas mileage.
As far as wither the plans or a rip off depends on how you look at it. The plans do have a lot of information and I actually have the plans.. I didnt think anything in the plans was to impressive and you can find most of the stuff they tell you through your own research on the internet.
I have just started developing a cell I hope to be able to put in my car in the future. The major reason this isn't big is that to many people make money off of crude oil. There are actually major car companies that are working on developing a hydrogen vehicle.
Some people say that it is not efficient because it takes more energy to produce the HHO then it creates (because of the law of physics) but with alternators in vehicles you can draw power from your battery and it is recharged.
I believe this is very possible and could be the answer to our oil dependence. They need to get rid of Ethanol and start putting all that research money into hydrogen. Ethanol just raises the prices of most stuff we buy.
Most stuff that is in wide use today (such as the automobile) at one time had a large group of people saying it wasnt possible. and now everyone drives a car.
