England on Four Wheels – Advice for Driving in England

Should you want to view England and all it has to show, the ideal way is by car. Driving through England means moving at one's desired speed and selecting your itinerary yourself. This itinerary gives a trip from your cheap hotel deals in Brighton to England's North East, and this could get your mouth watering. I've selected this journey due to the way the landscape changes, from coast to coast and city to village.

1st Day- Begin in the south coastal city of Brighton. Brighton is a wonderful city with its Pavilion, showgrounds and pier. Leave the hotel in the morning and head along the coast through the A27. A great place to hold up for lunch is Portsmouth, that has a famous Spinnaker Tower and all the fantastic eateries in Gunwharf Quays. Travel back to the highway and take it till Southampton, from which you'll switch to the A36. The A36 can take you up to the historic area of Salisbury, with its impressive medieval castle.

Day Two- Exit Salisbury on the A360 then get onto the A303. This route will lead to the place everyone must view once, the mysterious and striking Stonehenge. After this, you'll travel west, pass Warminster, and get into Bath. Bath holds some of the ruins of the Roman baths, some of England's most wonderful historical architecture. After this, take the A46 and A433 north until you end up in the Cotswolds. Tetbury and Cirencester are a couple of towns that have a lot of nice bed and breakfasts and budget hotel chains for the night's rest.

3rd Day- On this day, you'll take a drive to Coventry. While you're going, you'll hold and see two of England's best destinations. First, you'll take the A429 and rest along the way at Stratford-Upon-Avon, where Shakespeare was born. Head north on the A46, and then stop at the immaculate Warwick's castle. Be sure to have time to see the beautiful cathedral at Coventry.

Day Four- After leaving your hotel in Coventry, travel north on the M69 and then the M1. It's possible to stop at the odd sight of Chesterfield's crooked spire. After this, go west up to the small town of Bakewell, found in the Peak District. An additional option is to head north to the lively area of Sheffield, where you can find a range of excellent hotels.

Day Five- Keep heading north via the M1 and you'll pass Leeds. After a short stop there, get on the A64. This will bring you to the historic city of York, where you can enjoy shopping in the complex streets with old style shops, have a look at the Minister and travel past the ancient city walls. York consists a lovely park-and-ride service designed for tourists, since the city really doesn't give a lot by way of parking spaces. If it's still daylight, you can head northeast up to Pickering, famous for its ridable Steam Railway. Otherwise, you could shack up at any of the wonderful hotels in York.

6th Day- At this time, you'll be getting to the coastline. Drive on the A170 and soon you'll get to Scarborough, an old fashioned fishing town smack bang on the coast. Scarborough contains an old castle that's right at the headlands, and this is a wonderful area to stop for a seafood lunch. Get on the A171 and soon you'll get to the beautiful cliffside city of Robin's Hood Bay. Stay in any of the sweet quaint hotels at the hill's top; the streets at the level of the sea are quite narrow, so taking your car through there is not recommended.

7th Day- Keep on the A171 by the coast and soon you'll be at Whitby. It's an attractive town that has a busy harbor, little side streets and an old gothic abbey. You've reached the end of the journey! Okay, you can take your car to the local franchise of the car rental agency, or you can drive back to Brighton and take in the the sights on the way back!
